CALIFORNIA COLLEGE Guidance initiative | CALIFORNIACOLLEGES.EDU
Design Manager at the State of California’s Official College
and Career Planning Platform
The California College Guidance Initiative (CCGI), which manages CaliforniaColleges.edu, is a legislatively authorized service provider to California school districts, as established in California Education Code section 60900.5.
CaliforniaColleges.edu is California’s state-funded, comprehensive digital platform, providing the tools students need to develop their college and career plans, available at no cost to students, educators, and parents/guardians in public school districts.
In the two years that I have been at CCGI, I have updated the brand and identity guidelines for both CCGI
and CaliforniaColleges.edu, brought cohesion to and expanded upon the look and feel of the brand, made great
strides in elevating their social media strategy and content, and brought a level of professionalism to their external
touch points not previously present. I am very proud of my contributions to this extraordinary organization, which
is helping students all over California achieve their college and career goals.
As Design Manager, I:
• Lead design for marketing and instructional materials, including PDFs,
web graphics, social media, slide decks, and print collateral.
• Manage quality control for all communications, ensuring visual consistency.
• Collaborate across teams to align needs and deliver high-impact projects.
• Design and edit marketing and instructional videos.
• Create original illustrations and animations for social media and marketing videos.
• Develop and document design and video production processes.
• Research, develop, and document accessibility/ADA practices for design.
Brand and Identity Guidelines
I developed 30+ page, internal and external, brand and identity guidelines documents for CCGI and CaliforniaColleges.edu to unify visual and editorial standards across internal teams and external partners, including school districts statewide and state agencies.
I structured the guide, wrote most of the content, and defined detailed rules for logos, color palettes (with accessibility compliance), typography, photography, and illustration. I emphasized a friendly, clear tone to make the guidelines easy to apply, even for non-designers.
I also created standards for social media and video that balance academic credibility with student-friendly approachability.
Working closely with Communications and Leadership, I delivered a single source of truth that improved consistency, inclusion, and professionalism across all channels—from print to web and social media.
This project highlights my ability to design cohesive brand systems and produce clear, accessible documentation for broad audiences.
Print Collateral
As the Design Manager for CCGI’s Communications Division, one of my primary internal clients is the Engagement & Implementation
team, who provide educators and school counselors at partner districts throughout California with planning, training, and implementation
support on how to integrate our college and career tools, assessments, and reporting tools into their practice and curriculum.
Stickers, flyers, rack cards, and postcards are some of printed collateral that I have designed for this public facing team who is out in the field attending convenings and hosting trainings.
Event Signage and Backdrops
I collaborated with the Programs team to create these versatile backdrops, which provide visibility at crowded conferences as well as a brand-aligned environment.
